Doctor Who: Series 1: Episode 8: Father's Day

Probably one of the best episodes of the first series...

Rose asks the Doctor to go back to 1987, the day her dad died so, she stands by the road and watches her dad get of his car and sadly get run over but she hesitates and doesn't go to comfort her dad so she asks to redo the moment. There are now two sets of The Doctor and Rose, she then realizes she can't let him die and saves him from the accident and unwitting resets history and unleashes the reapers upon the world. The Doctor and Rose argue about saving her dad, so the Doctor, goes back to the TARDIS and realizes what Rose has done.

On this day, Jackie and Pete were attending a wedding and that's when the Reapers attack! So all the guests (and the Doctor and Rose) huddle in the church because the older something is the stronger it is, so they can not get through. But if the wound it time becomes weaker they can get through. After some chitchat in the church Peter realizes who Rose is and hands Rose herself (weird sentence) and the Reapers break through.

My thoughts: Really nothing really happens when inside the church, which people say is a bad thing but I don't because it leads them into a false sense of security and then the exiting stuff happens! Going back to my point in the second paragraph of Pete handing baby Rose to adult Rose I think either the Paul Cornell forgot what coversation the Doctor and Rose had earlier in the episode about not touching the baby but then she goes and holds the baby anyway... But all in all this is a high point of the series... 8/10

Doctor Who: Series 1: Episode 7: The Long Game

Basic episode but works brilliantly!

The Doctor, Rose and Adam arrive on Satellite 5 which is a news broadcasting station where the workers have chips in their brains that feed all the information that they need.  We also find out that they all want to be promoted to floor 500 because it is the highest promotion you can ever earn.

Adam, the new willing companion goes on his own to explore some of the other floors and what other jobs there are on this spacestation! One of the floors he visits is where people get the chips in their brains and one of the nurses talks him into it and so with a click of his fingers (literately!) gets all information into his head!

The Doctor and Rose get captured on floor 500 where they meet the Editor (Simon Pegg) and his master the Mighty Jagrafess and they have been luring people up to the floor and 'the master' has been killing them and stripping them to their skeletons!

I have explained the story but not my thoughts! Opps! I find this episode enjoyable and very well written. During the production stages, Russell T. Davis wanted this story to be told from Adam's point of view and in my opinion this would not of worked and I would just not enjoy the episode... I think Adam was a very rushed character and just did not appeal to the audience.

I like the fact the Editor was played by Simon Pegg and his acting was amazing when it comes to the evil characters and his performance was... Chilling! (good joke me!) The CGI character of the Mighty Jagrafess was very impressive so I grant them to that!

The way the Editor and Might Jagrafess were killed during this story was very clever because they had both been surrounded by cold temperatures and The Doctor and Rose just turned up the heat!

Finally, I would just like to say that Doctor- you were right to kick Adam off the TARDIS! Great episode 9/10! Till the next review... Father's Day!

Doctor Who: Series 1: Episode 6: Dalek

The Daleks Return...

The Doctor and Rose land in a museum but instead of human artifacts it is full of aliens artifacts like: Models of alien spaceships and another of the Doctor's oldest enemies.Soon they are captured by Henry Van Statten and his men and he wants to know why our heroes were there and what they were doing. Soon after Henry trusts the Doctor and Rose and dares the Doctor to go and see his 'Meltatron'! But we soon see it is a DALEK! During this confrontation we learn more of the Time War and what part the Daleks played and how the the Daleks and the Time Lords died...

Sadly, any mystery is spoiled  by the title and the 'Next time trailer'!   it was known the Daleks would return so trying keeping us guessing what the Meltatron looked like and how it kills but this again was ruined so that is one of the few bad points I have with this episode.

We also learn of the character of Adam (played by Bruno Langley) I think he works for this episode but when he joins the TARDIS he becomes very annoying character. Rose is very good within this episode until she lets the Dalek loose..

The Dalek uses her DNA to get loose and run (or roll) around the base! I like the idea of the stairs (Daleks could not get up stairs) but it proved us wrong which was very, very, very, very funny! We also see the actual Dalek creature not just the casing which is a really well made (or CGI) creature.

We also see the dark side of the Doctor and how he has been wanting revenge since the Daleks destroyed his home and family and we get to see the lighter side of DW as a show as well it's not just the aliens killed and The Doctor and Rose get on with there lives and the Dalek is set free. As for Henry Van Statten he finally gets a taste of his own medicine and he is fired! Great episode, two bad points so... 8/10! Till the next review... The Long Game.

Doctor Who: Series 1: Episode 4/5: Aliens Of London/World War Three

I do quite enjoy this episode but it is very random and weird.

The Doctor returns Rose to Earth and he thinks 12 hours have passed since the events of 'Rose'. But he later finds out that it has been 12 months! And as you could probably tell Jackie was not happy! And as a result of this Jackie involves the police and that is a really funny aspect and it fit in really well with the episode.

A while later the Doctor and Rose are talking and a spaceship fly's over head so naturally they go to investigate, they soon find that London has been closed off and if things are getting better the spaceship and smashed and broken Big Ben. We soon learn of the Slitheen human sized creatures who are very dangerous to be around. They are very funny as characters and I think Russell T. Davis has done a great job with these creatures and made them connect with the audience.

The Doctor soon learns of Rose's family life and tries to to intrude but we as we know from the episode 'Rose that she is not happy with her life on Earth and sometimes I don't think the Doctor sees that. So he goes to investigate on his own.

So we were getting to the end of this episode and I had no idea what the Slitheen's plan was and I grant it was a two- parter so It was not supposed to give it all away but we should get an insight of what it may be.

World War Three- Where in the last 10 minutes of the episode... I kind of got the plan and they were trying to sell space junk to the people of Earth. We also learn of the Slitheen's weakness: Vinegar which is very funny and very simple and soon as the Doctor figures this out.... All hell broke loose.... Now I know what you were thinking, The Doctor did not vinegar them to death but with the help of a missile. At the end of the episode Rose finally stays with the Doctor, she packs a bag and leaves leaving boyfriend Mickey and mother Jackie heartbroken... But don't worry she'll be back soon...

All in all this is an OK episode.... 7/10

Doctor Who: Series 1 Episode 3: The Unquiet Dead

Finally, A Great Episode!!!

Plot:
The Doctor and Rose travel back to Victorian Cardiff (on Christmas Eve) to explore the depths of time BUT: There's a problem! Before they have even materialised, creepy things have happened! The recently departed are not staying departed! Every night they walk around the streets terrorizing people and being zombie- like. But the local undertaker and his assistant are bringing these dead zombies back to their parlour.

Rose, discovers this and is determined to stop it! Not realizing that they are already dead, but in the process Rose is kidnapped by the undertaker and his assistant. The Doctor discovers this and chases after them! But accidentally stumbles upon the great writer: Charles Dickens.  Enlisting his help together they get Rose back and end up to befriend the undertaker (Sneed) and his helper (Gwyneth.) The Doctor discovers that the Gelth are possessing the dead!

My Thoughts:
'The Unquiet Dead' is a great episode it captures the many aspects of DW that I love! My favourite episodes are the ones that dwell deep into the past and you can learn about that time period and how the people would deal with something as creepy as this! I love the idea that Gwyneth is psychic and she can see into Rose's future (to see the 'Big Bad Wolf)

Charles Dickens! At the time I didn't know much about him (I was 5) but he fits perfectly into this story, so that is another feature that I enjoy! Love this episode! Would recommend it to anyone!!!

10/10

Doctor Who: Series 1: Episode 2: The End Of The World

Now, this is what I call the weaker side of DW!

Plot Summary:
The Doctor takes Rose to a space station to witness the death of planet earth along with many other different aliens and creatures, such as: The forest of Cheem and the Face of Boe. Then!!! Cassandra comes out! Cassandra is obsessed with beauty treatments to make her look thin and beautiful. But she went too far and is now a piece of skin (with eyes and mouth) stretched onto a metal frame. And she also believes she is the 'last human' (aside from Rose.)

Later on, Jabe (from the Forest of Cheem) takes a liking to the Doctor and asks him to explore with him.Rose is pretty jealous at this point but decides to stay put with the aliens and creatures. After a while one of the cleaners spots something down a vent and goes to investigate. But as she climbs in, she is grabbed and pulled down the vent (we assume she had died).

As the Doctor and Jabe are exploring, another death has taken place. And as soon as the Doctor has heard about this goes to find out what has gone on.

My Thoughts:
So far, this isn't a standout episode it seems quite dull in my opinion and it is quite frankly. Basically a murderer is on the spacestation, when I first saw it, the whole murder thing didn't seem to work for me! The only time murder mysteries have worked DW is later on when the series had reached it 4 year. When we found out who the murderer was, it wasn't a shock! (It was Cassandra) Then she targeted Rose! And that bored me to death! The whole episode for me was an absolute LET DOWN: 3/10 (AND THAT'S BEING GENEROUS)

Doctor Who Series 1 Episode 1: Rose

I think it is a great episode but no the best in its series.

The beginning is normal and not very unique, but that works in DW perfectly. Rose is late for work and is rushing around her flat (she lives with her mum.) When she finally gets there, she needs to deliver a lottery ticket. She goes in the basement. She starts to hear strange noises and it is eerily quiet. THEN!!! The window shop dummies corner her! (The Autons.) The Autons are great creatures!!What  I love in DW is  when the alien/creatures or monsters are really basic simple things. The Autons are a great way to introduce a new audience into the show!!! I love DW as I'm getting older I find being scared while watching episode can be REALLY hard! And that's why it can appeal to many anges. (When you're a child you scare easier)

THEN:
The star of the show is introduced! The Doctor bursts onto our screens. The character of the doctor (in his ninth body) is very closed and secretive. We get told he is a Time lord and also an alien... AND he has to fight evil nearly everyday of his life and he's being doing it a while! He and Rose together in my opinion are a great package and bounce off each other well. I personally think the Doctor teaches Rose and Rose teaches the Doctor in an odd sort of way.

ROSE'S FAMILY (AND BOYFRIEND)
Rose's family is strong but her father died in a car crash when Rose was a baby so it has been Jackie (Rose's mum) and Rose. Jackie is hilarious and very worried for her daughter's safety. Mickey  when he first meets the Doctor he is worried (and jealous) that Rose admires him so much.

DEFEAT OF THE AUTONS
Like in every story or series there has to be a  happy ending! The defeat of the autons is great! We got the impression that the Doctor always saves the day but NO! Rose comes in and rescues him by kicking a tube of liquid. It fell into the Autons boss (the Nestene Consciousness) and he died.

All in all this a a good episode but could be tweaked a bit. The characters are good, the plot is good..
8/10
